Shelbyville is going to say good-bye to its famous Pink Lady - 2/12/2012
She's a beauty, a 1966 Ford Mustang in Playboy Pink, dubbed the Pink Lady, for obvious reasons. Mike Bazan helped restore the car to its original luster. She once roamed the streets of sunny California and was picked up in Utah by owners Mike and Gloria Bazan, who brought her home to Shelbyville nearly two decades ago and lovingly restored her until she was, in the pink. She's a winner of many awards and has been featured in numerous magazine articles and photographs, including the pages of this newspaper at least twice. Indeed, the Pink Lady causes quite a stir wherever she goes. We often turn heads when we drive down the street, Gloria Bazan said. Now, though, Pink Lady is about to move on to a whole new world. She's leaving Shelby County for Zurich, Switzerland, to join a private collection of Mustangs owned by Dr. Peter Isler. There, she will be on display, surrounded by her trophies, plaques and framed awards, all of which were purchased by Dr. Isler late last year. She's been a good car, Mike Bazan said. Gloria and I have enjoyed taking her to car shows around the country, showing her off. But she's too much to keep up now. That won't leave the Bazans without a ride, however. The Bazans have three of them in their garage a 1994 Indy Pace Car, a 1966 red Mustang GT and the 1966 Pink Lady and they like to show them off. All of the cars are in impeccable shape. Collecting and showing cars has been a hobby they have shared since their children left home, and it's clear they enjoy it. As active members in both the Derby City Mustang Club, and the Mustang Club of America, they take their Mustang across the country to compete in car shows. They've even ventured across the border into Mexico and Canada to compete with other cars in their class. And they've won trophies. The Pink Lady has given them fond memories and stories. Wherever they travel, they accumulate accolades, and that's what makes it all fun. They said they are pleased that Pink Lady will go to a buyer who appreciates her uniqueness. There were only 15 or so 1966 Mustangs made to match this one, and you can't find one just anywhere. Will the Bazans miss the Pink Lady? Of course. But they said they are happy to hold onto their other vintage cars. We'll continue to attend shows and display our pride and joy. And the Pink Lady she'll continue to turn heads wherever she goes, only now on a whole new continent. So the Pink Lady will be in good company in her new home.

Passing of the Torch - 12/20/2011
Roger and Donna Goodin have been September in the Park chairman for the last three years but as all good things pass so they too have relinquish their chairmanship. Donna's work schedule has her traveling several weeks a month which hinders her commitment to accept this responsibility. For those who attended one are all of their shows "Groovy70’s", "Monster Bash" or "Wild, Wild West" you can attest that they were great. Their devotion and leadership has set the bar high for the next chairman. I encourage all members to thank them for services rendered and wish them well on their next endeavor.
